FreePBX Unable to connect to remote asterisk / can’t reload config

For example, the error message:

Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?)
Exception: Unable to connect to Asterisk through the CLI in file /var/lib/asterisk/bin/retrieve_conf on line 30
Stack trace:
1. Exception->() /var/lib/asterisk/bin/retrieve_conf:30

Asterisk is probably running as the wrong user (root) perhaps because it was started as a service.

run chkconfig asterisk off to disable the service.

restart asterisk with

asterisk -rx ‘core stop now’

fwconsole start

Can’t connect to wireless networks in new versions of Debian/Ubuntu

Symptom: select a network and type network passphrase. The wifi indicator will blink, spin, whatever to show that it’s connecting. It will keep doing that for a while, then say “Disconnected”

Edit the file

/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

Then add this to the bottom of that file:

[device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no

Save file, run

sudo service network-manager restart

Then it will work.
